Breaking News: Sampo gets the call

By Brett Auten | Knuckle Junkies

The dream has become a reality for local standout Josh Sampo.

Sampo, a flyweight out of St. Charles MMA, got the news today that he will be fighting in the UFC.

Sampo will take on fellow newcomer Ryan "Baby Face" Benoit (7-2) out of Dallas, TX.

Sampo, considered one of the top flyweights in the world by several media outlets, stands at 10-2 and has won four straight. He is the current CFA flyweight champ but a clause in his contract allowed him to sign with the UFC.

Sampo is on a 7-1 tear since losing to Mike French (albeit at bantamweight) by decision in his fourth pro fight in 2011. The beginning of 2012 saw the St. Charles MMA product go from upstart to legit contender.

He had a win in the bag over rising flyweight and UFC-vet Will Campuzano before suffering a KO in the third. Since then, Sampo's run features wins over WEC vet Antonio Banuelos and a fifth-round submission finish of world-class wrestler Alexis Villa in a January fight that earned Sampo his title.
He recently successfully defended his title with unanimous decision win over Sam Thao in October.

The TUF 18 Finale takes place Nov. 30 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on MMAjunkie.

All seven of Benoit's victories have come by stoppage with six knockouts and a submission.

The TUF 18 finale card looks like this:

TUF 18 women's tournament final
Walter Harris vs. Jared Rosholt
Maximo Blanco vs. Akira Corassani
