The Science of Jiu-Jitsu

By Tyler Bishop | Columnist for Knuckle Junkies

"In the 90's, the world learned that if you wanted to get in a fight that you better learn brazilian jiu jitsu first. Since then, the sport of jiu jitsu has exploded. Nearly 4,000 competed in the Pan Jiu Jitsu Championships earlier this year, and the elite competitors are now setting their eyes back towards MMA.

My name is Tyler Bishop, and I run BishopBjj.com, a website devoted solely to the science of jiu jitsu. I'm also an assistant jiu jitsu instructor at Gracie Humaita St. Louis. I am a 6x State jiu jitsu champion, 8x NAGA champion, and am a former amateur MMA champion among many other accomplishments. I have cornered MMA fighters in Strikeforce, FightMe, and lots of smaller shows here in the midwest. I have been doing jiu jitsu for over 6 years, and love jiu jitsu with an undying passion.

My column will always have a video powered by BishopBjj.com, and will feature write-ups and breakdowns of all the major midwest tournaments,. We will also feature in-depth interviews with St. Louis' top jiu jitsu instructors, as I will travel around to some of the best jiu jitsu gyms in the area to get thier unique perspective.

In August we will be featuring a close-up of the IBJJF Chicago event on August 18th which will feature the best jiu jitsu competitors from the midwest. The IBJJF holds the largest, most prestigious jiu jitsu tournaments in the world, and we are excited that they are back in Chicago for another big outing. Let us know if you plan on attending so we can shoot some footage of you while you are there competing.

Stay tuned to KnuckleJunkies.com and BishopBjj.com for the latest in St. Louis Jiu Jitsu and MMA
