Brawl in the Ballroom - 7.20.12 Recap

The Champion Productions event on Friday was dubbed "Brawl in the Ballroom," but it easily could have been called "The KO Show." Three fighters were knocked out by strikes and one was put to sleep by and arm triangle. They were all impressive knock outs, but if you had to choose the KO of the night, Ryan Cox's 11 second performance would take the honors. Cox threw a right that would have made a lumberjack proud, dropping Jim Pfaffonback stiff as an oak tree.

Tasha Widger and Heather Parsons was the only female fight of the night. It went the full 3 rounds with both fighters landing solid head shots. Widger's perseverance and ground control proved to be too much for Parsons and won by unanimous decision.

David Hicks and Robert Mayes had a back and forth five round war. Hicks worked for several submission opportunities throughout the fight but was unsuccessful in finishing. Twice he had pretty good arm bars locked in but Mayes was patient and was able to escape. Both fighters displayed a high level of grappling skills with plenty of reverses to keep the crowd fully engaged in the fight. Mayes was selective with his striking and ended up securing the win and Welterweight Title by split decision.

Another notable title fight was the display of raw power Mike Wright used in his Heavyweight Mid-West Title match with Curtis McBride. Both fighters came out exchanging heavy leather before Wright took McBride down worked some ground and pound then started throwing devastating knees to the ribs that led to a ref stoppage at 2:33 in the first.
