NFA: A War Withing - Preview

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

Back for another round, the Nemesis Fighting Alliance returns August 25 for a second event, approximately four months after Brad Cary and co. revived the organization earlier this year.

In April, NFA raised close to $3,300 for the Backstoppers of Jefferson County with its event titled "No One Fights Alone" that featured Chuckie Brooks scoring a first-round TKO, headlining a 13-fight amateur card.

A star on the rise, Orlando Sanders, headlines NFA's "A War Within" taking on one of the area's best amateur middleweights Kevin Roper. Roper, training out of the Wolves' Den in Wentzville, has won five out of his last six dating back to 2016. Roper has built off a solid wrestling base to complement his game with lights-out power. Last June, Roper and Jeremiah Curtright turned in a fight of the year winning performance that saw Roper get his hand raised. In that contest, Roper pushed through an empty gas tank to take home a decision victory in one of the best amateur fights in St. Louis MMA history.

Sanders, a product of the BJJ Lifestyles academy in Belleville, IL has been on a roll winning his first four MMA fights in dominating fashion, submitting his last two opponents.

Grappler Josh Augustine will face Irfan Mulabitinovic in an intriguing featherweight bout. Neither fighter has competed in over two years, but expect both fighters to be sharp and ready. The much taller Augustine - who trains alongside teammates Lucas Clay, Charles Johnson at St. Charles MMA - will be a tough match-up for Mulabitinovic, who is also very good on the ground, with some tricky submissions in his tool bag. Mulabitinovic has won five of his first six amateur fights, with three submissions.

Flyweights Harold Neff and Raja Singh will tangle in a bout that could steal the show if it plays out as we think. Singh, the former primary training partner for Invicta FC top atomweight contender Ashley Cummins, has lightning quick reflexes and nasty submissions. Singh will have his hands full with Neff who is 3-1 with three finishes to his credit, fighting mostly out of Columbia, MO

The tenacious Sunni Shemwell will face Chelsea Johnson in a women's MMA bout. After losing her first bout to Kia Lola last fall, Shemwell bounced back with a gutsy split-decision win in March. When Shemwell's skill catches up with her heart and determination, look out.

Rounding out the main card, Luis Felipe from Watson Martial Arts will face a yet to be announced opponent.

On the undercard, Nick Winchester meets Trivon Taylor, and Jason Newman and Jimmy Timmerberg will battle in a kickboxing bout.

For every ticket sold to NFA's "A War Within," $5 will be donated to US Veterans Foundation.
