Pick Your Poison 2 - Event Preview

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

Rumble Time continues its busy 2013 with a second "Pick Your Poison" show on Friday night.

The event at Ameristar will feature a variety of contests that include: pro boxing, pro muay thai, and amateur K1 and MMA.

Professional boxing bouts will be Stephon Young vs Zach Hubbard, Lamar Harris vs Zach Kelley, and Jose Jones will take on MMA fighter Adam Meredith.

In something that has become a rare treat to this area, Jason Slattery and Caleb McCutchen will compete in a pro rules Muay Thai match. Slattery and McCutchen have big shoes to follow after the exciting battle between Ray Grindstaff and Joe Cox, which was the main event at the last Pick Your Poison event.

On the amateur side, one fight that should definitely grab your attention is a lightweight showdown between (10-2) Cody Huff and undefeated Jake Roberts (6-0). Roberts is the product of endless nights of no easy rounds as one of the main sparring partners for pros Zach Freeman and Meredith. Roberts has been forged in the fires at St. Charles MMA and looks like he could be the next big thing.

A jiu-jitsu standout with incredible athleticism, Roberts seems to have his priorities in order.

"I'd rather just train than fight. I just want to set a good example for Mike Rogers and St Charles MMA." Roberts said. "That's the only thing I wanna do as an amateur. These other guys can keep their catalog belts and Facebook page titles."

Roberts has faced tough opponents before, including the very durable Jake Buehler. After many hard wars in the infamous SCMMA Sunday Funday, Roberts feels prepared for any situation.

"I know he's tall," Roberts said. "I see the fight going wherever 4 oz gloves take us."

Roberts was a bit undersized at welterweight and has dropped to lightweight since his last MMA fight.

"I've been working on keeping my weight down, otherwise I haven't changed much," he added.

Roberts vs Huff will highlight the MMA portion of the card that also sees Jake Willyard returning after a submission victory at Fight Hard this past Saturday.

On the K1 side of things, Tim Mantle looks to stay busy and will be joining teammate Quentin Loper in kickboxing action. Three total K1 matches will team with seven MMA fights to fill out the undercard.
