Rumble Time: Flager vs Robbins - Event Preview

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

Following on the heels of a huge night of boxing that was featured on ESPN 2, Rumble Time Promotions returns to the cage with a night of MMA and K1. his will mark its third event in less than two months.

Headlining the event is a match between two Rumble Time regulars, Yohance Flager from Berger's MMA, and Justin Robbins out of the Kennel Club in Springfield, IL.

Robbins (16-16) has been moonlighting as a professional boxer to stay active and enters the cage with over 30 MMA fights to his credit, including a February loss on Titan FC at the hands of Kalvin Hackney. Local fans will remember Robbins from his unanimous decision victory over Shaine Moffitt in January in a very close, back-and-forth encounter.

Flager (5-5) is coming off a controversial DQ loss to Ray Grindstaff in May when a series of accidental low blows caused a stoppage to the fight. Flager has a much stronger ground game, and if he can get the fight grounded it will go a long way towards him beating Robins.

Javon "Wolfman" Wright and Malcolm Smith will tangle in the co-main event. Smith (3-2) is on a bit of a hot streak after losing his first two, and has looked very well-rounded as of late. In June, Smith defeated Matt Dukes via rear naked choke in his first submission victory as a pro. The "Carmel Nightmare" fought Wright's teammate Hugh Pulley in his professional debut.

Wright is much better than his (4-3) would indicate and has faced some very tough competition in the form of local UFC product Alex White, former WEC star Chase Beebe and current RFA prospect Luke Sanders. Wright's quickness may give Smith trouble, but Smith has an obvious edge when it comes to the ground game. This should be an exciting match-up between two of the area's top un-signed featherweights.

Also on the card is Ken "The Sensation" Porter, an exciting flyweight who has great hands incredible movement inside the cage. Porter competed on the same Titan FC show as Robbins and is now (4-2, 1 NC). Taking on Porter is Texas' Albert Tapia (2-0), a good wrestler who will be making his first cut to a catchweight of 120.

Krik Huff from St. Charles MMA will look to stay unbeaten when he takes on Raul Rosas. Rosas was recently defeated by Huff's teammate Jake Roberts in May. As a pro Huff is 2-0 in MMA, 3-0 in boxing, and 1-0 in Muay Thai. Huff has recently taken to studying the art of Chess boxing with an international Master. Chess boxing combines chess with boxing in alternating rounds.

Also of interest is one of the area's top amateur prospects, Travis Draper, returning after a long layoff. Jordan Dowdy and Tim Mantle will battle in an intriguing middleweight affair. Red-hot Marissa Smith from the War Room will do a K1 contest vs Jennifer Reed. Reed fought Smith's teammate Wendy Julian late last year in an amateur Muay Thai fight late last year.
