Rumble at the Chase - Event Preview

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

Rumble Time Promotions will kick off its 2014 season on Saturday with a trip to a legendary St. Louis landmark.

Rumble at the Chase will be the first of four trips by the boxing/MMA promotion to the storied Chase Park Plaza Hotel in the Central West End.

Built in the 1920's this upscale venue is home to a luxury hotel, condominiums, a movie theater, and several restaurants and bars. It was also the home to Wrestling at the Chase from 1959 to 1983 on Channel 11. The weekly wrestling show saw some of the biggest names in the sport of professional wrestling entertain including: Ric Flair, Harley Race, "Cowboy" Bob Orton, Dick the Bruiser, Bruiser Brody, Gene Kiniski, Lou Thesz and Ted DiBiase.

In Saturday's main event all eyes will be on local undefeated, phenom Alex White in what could be his last local fight. White, out of Destruction MMA, went 3-0 in 2013 highlighted by a convincing performance at Titan FC on AXS TV. White (8-0) will face Adam Rider in the main event. Rider (5-4) fights mainly out of the Kansas City area and has shared the cage with tough competitors like Kevin Croom and Brian Davidson.

Local favorite Sal Woods has had a bumpy road of late. He's 2-2 over his last four including losses to Chris Heatherly and Jimmy Donahue with two wins over TJ Thomas. He dropped to lightweight for fight with Donahue and will return there against Vincent Eazelle. Eazelle is 6-1 and a very dangerous opponent. He possess lights out power and a very technical ground game which could give Woods issues.

White's teammate Shaine Moffitt will return after a six- month layoff to take on Justin Robbins. Robbins is a journeyman out of Springfield, IL and has over 30 professional MMA fights. Moffitt looks to rebound after dropping a razor-thin decision to Malcolm Smith this past August. Most of Robbins losses have come by way of submission. Moffitt is an opportunist when it comes to submissions, but he prefers to strike.

Super heavyweight Charles Rodgers from Modern Combat Systems will make his pro debut. Rodgers, nicknamed "Kong," will take on "Big Daddy" Jake Zogg from Clinton, IL. Whoever lands the first big shot will probably win this fight.

The all-amateur undercard is loaded with familiar names and interesting match-ups. Matt Murphy and Donte Butler could steal the show on the prelims. Jordan Dowdy is another one to watch after his impressive dismantling of JJ Tirtak at Shamrock FC in December.
