As we enter the final stretch of 2017, Shamrock FC closes out the year in Kansas City with another strong offering on November 18th.
Shamrock FC and Kansas City had another great year that saw the epic title fight between Bobby Voelker and Zak Bucia, the electric double KO last spring, and the rise of some great up-and-coming pros like Calen Born, and Anthony Garrett.
Headlining SFC 298 is one of St. Louis' blue-chip prospects and the winner of last year's St. Louis MMA Amateur of the Year, Eric Ellington making the trip down I-70 to KC.
After going 6-1 in 2016, Ellington made the jump to the pros in January with a decisive 3-round unanimous decision victory over Nick McClean. An injury sidelined Ellington for several months, but the "Big Dog" didn't lose any steam returning in August and scoring a highlight-reel, first round finish in just 58 seconds over Zach Harvey.
Facing Ellington will be the seasoned-veteran of over 20 pro fights, Johnnie Roades. Despite losing five-straight, Roades can be dangerous. He will have a definitive experience advantage over Ellington who will be competing in five-minute rounds for only the third time. If Roades can stay off his back and survive to the third round, he has a decent chance. Look for Ellington to use his wrestling to keep Roades locked down and grind out a decision.
Fresh from a successful pro debut last July, former Mizzou wrestler Johnny Eblen is back in action to face Charles Rooks. Eblen, now fighting out of American Top Team, only needed 61 seconds to submit Wayne Collier to launch his pro campaign. The six-foot Eblen is a prototype of what a middleweight should look like and will be a real handful for Charles Rooks who will be making his pro debut after a solid run as an amateur.
Heavyweight Kevin Woltkamp will face Jeff Carpenter in a bout that could end quickly and in violent fashion. Woltkamp mulled retirement after a January loss at Bellator 171 but is healthy once again and ready to enter the cage. Nicknamed the "Workhorse" Woltkamp fights with reckless abandon with a kill-or-be-killed mentality which always makes for an exciting contest. Don't look for the bout with Carpenter to go the distance.
A whole lot of muscle will be entering the cage when Anthony Goldfield and Shaun Scott tangle. Scott is a decorated strongman competitor, gymnast, and all around physical specimen fighting out St. Louis. After a stellar amateur run where he took home numerous amateur titles, Scott made the jump to the pros last September, finding victory over Kevin Brown. Scott hit a snag in February losing a close decision to Wes Powers in a fight that was razor close sparking debates on social media for the weeks to follow. Overland Park's Goldfield made his professional debut in July with a first-round TKO. Goldfield has been on the shelf since summer but has stayed busy, he recently received his blue belt from Rob Kimmons, and helped get his teammate Anthony Garrett ready for his fight in September.
Kicking off things on the main card is Will Johnson taking on Erick Murray. Johnson is back in the cage after suffering the first loss of his career, a second-round TKO at the hands of Team USA wrestling phenom Tyrell Fortune at Bellator 178.
On the amateur side of things, a rematch of a fight that went viral the last time the fighters faced off. A rare double knockout occurred when Alan Vasquez and Axel Cazares fought back in March. Both fighters connected simultaneously with punches, with Vasquez being the first to stand after both fighters hit the canvas thus being declared the winner.
Submission specialist Travis Sumler is back to face Cesar Morales. Undefeated bantamweight Morales is tougher than shoe leather and will be a stiff test for Sumler who got back to his winning with a first-round submission win in September over Israel Ortiz.
Popular Lawrence, Kansas fighter Rebecca Revelle returns to action to take on one of St. Louis' best amateur female fighters Savannah Shahan. Shahan, a teammate of Ellington at the Academy of Courage is looking to bounce back after suffering her first loss back in March. Tyler Rose and Chow Fang will face off in the night's only exhibition kickboxing match.
Tickets to Shamrock FC 298 are available from Ticketmaster.com and will be streamed on Shamrock FC PPV.
