Shamrock FC 318 - Preview

By Matt Frazier | Knuckle Junkies

On Mother's Day weekend, Shamrock FC brings punches in bunches to the River City Casino. On May 10, SFC 318 is headlined by red-hot Ty Flores looking to continue his climb to the top, the return of the energetic, back-flipping Scott Brothers, and possibly the last round for Dan Busch.

With three wins in 2018, including a dominant LFA victory in Branson, not many had a better year than Ty Flores. Flores (6-2) ended the year with a unanimous decision victory over UFC-vet James Bochnovic at SFC 311. Flores steps onto the mat with an arsenal of takedowns and submissions and combines it with a seemingly unending gas tank. Facing Flores on the in the main event is Daniel "The Bulldog" Vizcaya a former Ultimate Fighter contestant and 15-professional-fight veteran. Vizcaya is a staple of the Illinois/Indiana fight scene and even had a short run with M-1 Global that saw him travel to Moscow to take on Viktor Nemkov.

For this bout Flores will be making the move to light heavyweight, a weight class he's seen on occasional while competing as an amateur. He should be comfortable at the heavier weight.

In the co-main event, "Scrappy" Dustin Lampros will face Colton Minster. Lampros will look to stay undefeated and get his fourth professional win against Springfield, MO's Minster, making his professional debut.

In a pair of feature main card bouts, the Scott Brothers are back.

Derik Scott gained national attention as a contestant on Dwayne Johnson's Titan Games on the NBC network. He made it to the finals of the competition all while spreading a message of positivity. "The Law" will hope to make it two-in-a-row as he takes on the physically gifted Antonio Atkins at lightweight. Scott, much like his younger brother Shaun, is a pressure fighter. Atkins will need to hold up to a relentless pursuit from Derik who will look to chase him down and try and impose his will.

Competitive eater and adjunct professor, Shaun Scott will take on Derek Holly in a middleweight bout. Shaun always seems to bring excitement to the cage with him has yet to have a boring fight including his grapple-heavy affair with Adam Osmoe in January of 2018 that saw the two go back and forth for three exhausting rounds. Shaun Scott (2-2) could easily be 4-0 right now had two razor close decisions went his way. He's been out of the cage since the Osmoe bout and that could be a concern as Holly competed twice last year and is riding a two-fight win streak.

In a lightweight match-up, Dan Busch will face former SFC amateur champ Travon Crawford. Busch, a father of two, has stated in pre-interviews that this is his retirement match, and a win over Crawford will allow him to ride into the sunset with a respectable 3-1 record. Crawford is tough, and it won't be an easy night for Busch. Crawford lost both his fights in 2018 and will be hungry for a win.

If you haven't bought tickets yet, keep Dan Busch in mind as he plans on donating all of his win/show money, as well as sponsor and ticket money to the family of a fallen friend.

Rounding out the main card is recent SFC-signee David Evans making his pro debut taking on Sergio Robles. Evans has competed primarily for the IMMAF World Championships as an amateur and looks to take his imposing ground game and international experience into the pros against Robles, looking for his first win as a pro.

On the amateur side, one of the Midwest's best-kept secret, Max Choriev, will be back in action to take on Iowa's Shadoe Sloyer. Choriev seems to be blessed with all the tools necessary to succeed in MMA. This will be Choriev's sixth amateur bout, Sloyer brings in a record of 4-1.

Also of particulate note is a potential slug-fest of a kickboxing bout with Jason Brown taking on Chuckie Brooks. Brooks packs serious power, and Brown could be in for a short night if he allows Brooks to find his range.

Shamrock FC 318 will be streamed live on FloCombat, and tickets are available in the SFC store.
