Fresh from his first-round stoppage at Shamrock FC: Clash in September, the "Armadillo" William Joplin is back to take the main event honors at SFC: Ambush.
Joplin settled an unfinished score with Jacob Akin with a guillotine one minute into the rematch in September. This was a redux of an epic split decision a year earlier when Akin took home the win. Joplin, the hard-nosed grinder out of Glory MMA and Fitness, will test the mettle of undefeated Horacio Escobar (4-0) in what will be Escobar's toughest test as a pro.
After a very successful run as an amateur, Escobar turned pro in September of last year. During that time the 33-year old out of Kansas has left a pile of bodies in his wake, finishing all four of his opponents in the first including TKO victories over Blayze Rodgers, Nick Garrett, and Keeton Gorton, and stopping Steve Brown with a rear naked choke.
Joplin will be a great test for Escobar to see if he's the real deal as Joplin won't back down and can take a punch. This match could easily go to the judges as both fighters, more often then not, have gone to a decision in their fights.
Bantamweights Johnnie Roades and Lloyd "Boo" Chase will tangle in what could be a show stealer. While Roades' record isn't the best, he has only lost to some of the area's best young prospects in Jordan Howard, Chuka Willis, and Garrett Mueller. Chase won his pro debut and then got caught in a submission in his second bout. Both fighters will be hungry to impress the fans and use the other to advance their career.
Sympathetic hero Aaron Poston returns to the cage with another worthy cause. Poston donated his entire purse and commission from his September fight to a fund to help the daughter of his striking coach who was battling cancer. The teacher by day, bad ass by night, Poston will once again be offer up his winnings to a charitable cause when he faces Joe Brewer.
Marques Jackson will face Independence's Jeff Sveum. Sveum is on a bit of a rough patch and will look to right the ship against the always game Jackson out of Glory MMA and Fitness.
Popular local fighter Kevin Woltkamp will look to make a splash in his professional debut. He'll face "Bad News" Bo Kunz in a match-up between two big dudes who love to stand and swing. Woltkamp won his last four amateur fights before deciding to make the jump to the pros. Kunz recently snapped a three fight win streak with a loss to Steve Knogl in October.
