Shamrock FC: Devastation - Event Preview

Last time Shamrock Fighting Championships set up shop at the River City Casino, the promotion delivered what many called the greatest fight in St. Louis MMA history as Lucas Gwaltney defeated Adam Cella in a back and forth affair worthy of a Rocky movie.

On Saturday, it looks to rekindle some of that magic at SFC: Devastation.

Athletic welterweight Darryl Cobb from Andre's Academy is slated to headline the card. Cobb will look to return to his winning ways when he takes on Marcos Marquez a tough fighter out of Nebraska with a 5-3 record. Three of Marquez's wins come by way of submission, something that has troubled Cobb over the course of his career.

Cobb started off his career red hot winning six out of his first seven bouts before jumping into the deep end of the pool taking losses from some very stiff competition including: Giva Santana, Jake Collier, Andrew Sanchez, and Brett Cooper.

We tracked down Cobb before a Friday training session.



A pair of teammates from Hahn's MMA are looking to take wins home with them to Festus. Lance DeClue and Malcolm Smith both train under the tutelage of Kevin Hahn and will be both competing on the main card. Smith evened his record (2-2) back in March with a win over Jake Constant and has looked more comfortable in the cage after a bit of a rocky start. DeClue was victorious in his first and only professional fight with a second round KO over Gary Becker. DeClue is slick on the ground, and will need to reach deep into his bag of tricks against Shane Shomidie (1-1) out of Springfield, IL who also has a proven ground arsenal with the majority of his wins as a professional and amateur coming by way of submission.

Jason Carr visited the Hahn training center and wrote an excellent feature on the duo.

A clash between two tough, hard-nosed welterweights adds to an already solid main card. Bo Smith and Kain Royer are both hungry to take home that first win as a professional and neither mind stepping on the other to get it. Both fighters have strong ground games, so it will be interesting to see who gets that first win, and how.

Nikki Smith a teammate of Wendy Julian and Marissa Smith, looks to aspire to the high bar set by her female teammates at the War Room. Smith will be making her pro debut against Christina Daniels. The two women will kick off the professinal main card.

On the undercard, amateur wrecking machine Aaron Highfill is looking to fight for the second time in a matter of months. Highfill takes on JJ Tirpak
