Tank Picks: UFC 178

By Staff | Knuckle Junkies

The UFC closes out the month of September with one of their strongest cards in recent memory. Headlined by a UFC flyweight title fight, the main card is so stacked that former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz got pushed to the prelims.

We caught up with a nine-time UFC vet to get his take on all of the main card match-ups. In addition to being a long time fan of the sport, Luigi Fioravanti has fought all over the world including Russia and Japan. Fioravanti (24-11) an MMA instructor at Finney's MMA, will compete in an 8-man tournament at Battlegrounds MMA 5 in Oklahoma in October.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Chris Cariaso - UFC Flyweight title

Demetrious Johnson wins that fight because nobody can touch him at that weight. He's been defending his belt and nobody has been giving him any problems. I don't think he's taking this guy any lighter, he's just going to go in there and steam roll him.
Winner: Demetrious Johnson

Eddie Alvarez vs. Donald Cerrone

Eddie has been on the shelf for a little bit, but he's been training down at Blackzilliams, I'm sure of it. He hits hard, so fast, but I think Cerrone is on another level right now. He's a lot taller, and Alvarez has problems with taller guys. They're both well rounded on the ground. Alvarez will have the advantage on wrestling, but he's got to watch out for those knees. He likes to dip down and come in with a boxing style. Both guys are going to be in really great shape.
Winner: Donald Cerrone

Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier
I'm going to go with Poirier on this one. He trains down at American Top Team in Coconut Creek. He's been on a tear lately. McGregor has been on a tear lately, and he's more of a fan favorite. Loud, outspoken guy. I like Poirier, he's real slick, more experienced.
Winner: Dustin Poirier

Tim Kennedy vs. Yoel Romero
Kennedy has been around forever, tough as nails. He was an Army Ranger sniper. I'm going to go with Kennedy on that alone, because he's a veteran. He's super tough. Yoel is a good wrestler, Olympic caliber wrestler. He's big and hits hard.
Winner: Tim Kennedy

Amanda Nunes vs. Cat Zingano

Nunes trains at MMA Masters. They have a really good gym down there in Miami. Cat Zigano has been on the shelf for a little bit. I think she's going to try and make a statement coming back because she wanted that title fight against Rousey. She has to win this fight if she wants.
Winner: Cat Zingano
