Weekend Preview: February 10th & 11th

It’s another busy weekend for fighters and fans in St. Louis. Knuckle Junkies will be covering the Sport Fighting League on Friday and Nemesis Fighting Alliance on Saturday. Please check back for full recaps and photos.

Before we preview the shows locally, we want to remind everyone about Kyle Watson’s fight on the Cage Warriors show in Beruit, Lebanon. The fight will be streamed live on the internet via mmajunkie.com at 1PM Central time. Make sure you check out the founder of Watson Martial Arts as he takes on Dutch striker JP Vainikainen.

Kicking things off tonight at the Heart of St. Charles is SFL: Gateway to the Top. The Sport Fighting League is hosting two 4-man tournaments featuring welterweights and featherweights competing for a chance at a pro contract. The card features 15 fights with local fighters from St. Charles MMA, Granite City’s CMMA Fighting Systems, and Tyron Woodley’s ATT Evolution, among others.

The main card features the first round tournament matches:
James Mottershead vs Scott Ettling – 145lb
Cory Hunter vs Travis Draper – 145lb
Malcom Smith vs Kyle Walker – 170lb
Hugh Pulley vs Adam Mredith – 170lb

Late replacement Malcom Smith is stepping in for an injured Samir Pilipovic.

On Saturday night the action happens at the Teamsters Local 6 Hall in downtown St. Louis for Nemesis Fighting Alliance. Beejay Smith has assembled an incredible amateur card that features the first two matches in the Spire Bantamweight Tournament: Crouch vs Nienhaus and Harper vs Baynton. Also on the card is Chris Heatherly moving up in weight to take on the undefeated Tony Souders. Heatherly is fresh from a 6-second KO of Kain Royer on Friday.

The main card has:
Wil Alfaro vs Richie Fernow – NFA 135lb Title
Ronny Harper vs Daniel Baynton – NFA 145lb Title / Spire tourney match
Josh Crouch vs Kenny Nienhaus – Spire tourney match
