Who's the best amateur welterweight in the state? According to information received from Spire Sanctioning Alliance, we will soon find out when "The Natural" takes on "The Wolverine" at Cage Champs 39.
In a match-up of Kansas City vs St. Louis, the two best welterweights will duke it out with the winner earning the title of State Champion and the undisputed best in the division.
Chad "The Natural" Williams is currently undefeated after improving his record to (11-0) this past weekend at the NFA: Infantry Engaged. He has run roughshod over the competition in the western part of the state, and has since started seeking fights in St. Louis just to challenge himself. One fight he has asked for is Hugh Pulley, and it now appears he will get his wish.
There is an old adage "be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it". This will be Williams' toughest fight to date. For a fighter set to turn pro in September, the last thing he wants is to lose his last amateur fight.
Hugh "The Wolverine" Pulley has also been on a roll as of late, and is currently considered the region's best 170lb fighter. Most recently, Pulley won the 4-man Gateway to the Top Tournament featuring four top-tier welterweights on the cusp of going pro. Pulley bested tourney favorite Adam Meredith in the semifinal, and defeated Kyle Walker with an armbar in the finals.
Pulley is very well rounded and doesn't have any obvious weaknesses. He also doesn't have the wrestling credentials that Chad Williams has, a two-time All-American and National Champion wrestler at Missouri Valley.
Whoever wins this fight will use the momentum to lead them on a promising pro career.
